Da Yutes: Heifer Ranch Blog Day 1&2

7-18-10

Day One and Two;

We have had an awesome two days of driving, heat, tasteful music and very nutritious food. We started on Saturday morning at 8:30 AM (approx…once MIKE FINALLY showed up with the FBI van he he) We drove for 8hours filled with reading, talking, singing (great duets by Anna and Kristian)  EATING, sleeping, lots of bathroom breaks (due to Kristian’s spastic bladder) and saw lots of sights…including dead armadillos, trees, trees, fields, cows and more fields. We stopped for lunch at a park in downtown Des Moines on freshly painted benches to the smells of nasty egg salad sandwiches (alex and erin) continuing our trip we finally arrived at Kansas City, Missouri where we unpacked at the church we stayed at (Thanks St. James Lutheran!) and then hit downtown Kansas City where we explored and enjoyed some Mongolian Barbecue (We paid the price with Gabe’s bodily functions) then hit the club scene of Missouri….JK! we found a CD in a trash can and rocked out to it on the way to the super market to pick up breakfast supplies. We then went back to the nice air conditioned church and slept on the cold tile ground (or in some peoples’ case the nice velveteen pew covers) In the morning we enjoyed a breakfast (which erin wasted an entire bowl of soy milk in) Next we headed up to the service where they enjoyed our vocal stylings to traditional hymns and we enjoyed their complementary donuts. Then we hit up the local farmers market to accept our challenge of finding and agreeing on delicious phresh ingredients. We then drove to a park and CHOPPED up a nourishing salad which was accompanied by Ezekiel bread of life. We finished our drive complete with whining from our very own Mr. Lee. We arrived at Heifer Ranch at approx. 8 Pm and were warmly greeted by Janet and Olivia (our guides) and the entire town of Perryville (all 1000 of them ;) ) jk…but almost. We are staying in a lodge with another church group from Ohio. They seem pretty awesome. Well its just about bedtime and farm time=early mornings. We’ve signed up for classes tomorrow such as “Just Dough It” a class on home making starch products, “Care 4 The Earth” …pretty self explanatory and then two outdoor service activities dealing livestock and maintenance. More Tomorrow PEACE OUT-Jwell Youth.
