Let your feet take you closer to God

 Prayer Training

feet on their next mission

“Take time and trouble to keep yourself spiritually fit. Bodily fitness has a certain value, but spiritual fitness is essential both for life now and life to come.”    1 Timothy 4.7-8

We all have habits, a difference that is even bigger than ‘good and bad’ is whether they were chosen or just picked up. We want to help you choose some habits that connect you with God, the real you and the rest of the world which needs the real you out there. Here is something to try that I talked about last Sunday (March 7).

This is easy, all you need is your feet and your imagination. Before you spring out of bed in the morning (or lifelessly crawl out like I do) stop and wiggle your feet and be mindful of them for a few minutes. Imagine all the places those feet are going to take you today. To the kitchen, out the door and into your car, or onto the bus. At work. Your office, meeting rooms, offices of others, clients, workspace. Maybe school. Classrooms, hallways, practice. Home again. A friend’s house, wherever. Imagine those encounters your feet will bring you to. Some you look forward to, some you dread, others you barely register. Now think about who it is that you want to be in those places. You can just be going places and react and interact according to the conditions, or you can be following Jesus, you can be sent by God to each of these places. Be the person God is training you to be. Say a prayer right then (right now too for that matter) that you will choose who you will be – choose whose you will be. The God’s actor, or just the circumstance's reactor. Through your day, as you actually go to those places, let your feet remind you to choose.

Try it for a day and see what you think. Keep it going for two weeks and find a real difference in what you do, who you are and how you feel. Do it for six weeks and you’ll have established a new habit that will really change things.
