Holy Gibberish: when all else fails... the Word of God (guest: Rolf Jacobson)

messageaudio:

Fluent in Hebrew. Brain exploding with Old Testament facts. Ridiculously interesting and funny. Coming here NEXT WEEK to give the message!  Rolf Jacobson, professor at Luther Seminary and author of Crazy Talk and Crazy Book, has made his life work that of connecting the dots between the Bible and peoples' lives.  Don't miss him talking about Isaiah 40...it'll be a great week to bring a friend!

Prove It! - do it big (Dawn)

The Bible tells us the point of Jesus was that God loved the whole world. That’s everyone. Part of making Jesus real is to think big and reach far. It might be inconvenient and require some sacrifice, but stretch your arms out like Jesus did to make a difference in someone’s life you don’t know and watch God get real.

4 Revolutions: bigger than better (Greg Meyer)

messageaudio:

Along with “Mama”, “Dada” and “No” most of us learned to say “More” as one of our first words and we haven’t quit saying, wanting or trying to have it ever since. That’s a problem because we are running out of more and there isn’t room for bigger. “Bigger is better” thinking is killing us and destroying our world. You know it’s got to change and guess what, God does too! In fact, 1000’s of years ago God put the clues to what’s “Better than bigger” in the Bible for us to discover. Let’s take a look.

Life's A Pain... and then you... Train (Peter Christ)

It happens all the time and usually comes out of nowhere.  Long before the *stuff* ever hits the fan, wouldn't we be smart to put some energy into getting ready for it?  Preparing is a big part of enduring, and maybe even a bigger part of thriving. So rather than being hit by one, let ‘train’ refer to how you live so that you can be up for the challenge God’s got in mind for you.

Life's A Pain: fade (Dawn)

messageaudio:

If you're not feeling like life's a pain and, in fact, you might even say life is good, this week will put a burr in your saddle. Consider that times of smooth sailing have a purpose beyond just kickin' back, enjoying the ride, or breathing a sigh of relief that you’re road is smooth. Maybe it’s time for you to fade a little and shine the spotlight on someone who needs you. Warning: This may be the best ride of your life, AND seatbelts are required.

Life's A Pain... and then you... Sync (Greg Meyer 9/18/11)

messageaudio:

Interviewer: “So, how well do you know the Creator of the universe?” Respondent: “Um, like what do you mean? I know about him. Er, her, or… whatever. I mean we talk… sort of.” Interviewer: “Can I say, not BFF’s?” Respondent: “Yeah, I s’pose.”
That’s a problem, isn’t it? If God’s at the center, and God’s a functional stranger, then there’s some work to do to get in sync. Let’s plug-in.

Godflix: Winnie The Pooh (Jeremy Gustafson, 8/14/11)

messageaudio:

Chances are that you grew up with one foot in Hundred Acre Wood along with Christopher Robin, and partly because your parents got as much out of A.A. Milne's stories as you did. There is something deeper than stuffed bears obsessed with honey there. These quirky, whimsical and sometimes
troubled characters that populate the world of Pooh help us grasp some of the most simple and basic pieces of life. Maybe Pooh's statement, "It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?"" is really very like Jesus', "Come to me all you who are tired and carrying heavy burdens and I will give you rest."

Godflix: Captain America (Greg Meyer, Field School, 8/7/11)

What if there were super heroes? Well, there aren't. But what if everyone sifted their lives carefully for the best in it, then amplified it and took on the problems of their family, neighborhood and world? Now that would be amazing! Who'd need superheroes? Maybe that was what Marvel comic book creators and Joe Johnston, movie creator, had in mind with Captain America. Maybe it is what God has in mind with you. And then there is the surprise ending that foreshadows something you would never have expected, but was in the making all along. See the movie if you can.

Conversation with Joe Bozic (what if... our instinct was to learn from people we dislike?)

messageaudio:

God loves different. God loves new. Let's learn how to see the world like God. We welcome Improv Artist Joe Bozic to help us learn how.
