This email came to me the other day from someone in the J's W community who is in a Group reading Shane Claiborne's The Irresistible Revolution. I asked permission to post it on the Wall - which I received, so here it is, edited just enough to make it anonymous...
We had a lively discussion last night at our small group.
I have always had a hard time when religion and politics get mixed. Big time. Last night was the first time that I was able to say seated, listen and share, and NOT simply reject out of hand the whole attempt at fusing the two.
Others will tell you that I have had some serious issues when another church I've associated with have brought their political agendas into itI actually quit going for a while because of it. I have prayed a lot about this, and I am amazed that we were all able to have that discussion last night, share facts, and avoid any hurt feelings. I lean toward one side of things, but I abhor the manner in which both/any side goes about their business when it involves embracing their own while rejecting others. Last night we actually agreed that politicians, greedy business, the media, and those that blindly follow all deserve the same prayers, and that while each of us play an inextricable role in the big machine, we needn't participate at the zealous and exclusive levels which we see everyday.
I am grateful to be in this
period of growth. Thanks.
